推荐 N. Gregory Mankiw, “My Rules of Thumb”
哈佛大学经济学系大名鼎鼎的曼昆教授，不用多说了。他的《经济学原理》教科书在中国也很风靡。这里要说的这篇“My Rules of Thumb”[PDF]（《我的工作原则》，发表于 American Economist 杂志1996年第1期）是一篇随笔似的小文章，我当初读过之后感觉很受启发，近日又想起它，特在此推荐给我的学生和朋友们。
曼昆教授在此文中把他工作的“经验原则”总结为六点：
1. Learn from the Right Mentors;
2. Work With Good Co-Workers;
3. Have Broad Interests;
4. Allocate Time and Crew;
5. Write Well;
6. Have Fun.
并分别详加阐释，信为成功学者的经验之谈。在文章最后一部分，作者揭示了“[T]he secret to a happy life: find out what you like to do, and then find someone who will pay you to do it.”此言深得我心。
